Crazy about Color
This crazy patch quilt was given as a Christmas gift and incorporates
scraps of home dec fabric that had been used in the recipient's own
home. It also showcases fabric from some of her evening gowns. In
fact, the sequined bell tassels that surround the quilt on the outside
border are from an evening jacket that she treasured, but was ready to
retire. This luxurious quilt is bordered and backed in crimson velvet.
The patches are made from crimson, purple and green velvets, plus
various colors of silk, satin, lace and other scrumptious fabrics.
In the Victorian tradition of a crazy patch quilt, each seam where the
patches meet is covered in beautiful embroidery stitches. The
recipient's immediate family members are represented on the quilt by
their embroidered names and certain appliqués were added because
they symbolize a personal interest or collection.
This quilt was machine pieced, appliquéed and embroidered. It
measures 40 inches square and is a superb example of the luxury and
comfort a quilt can convey.
