Made in the 1930's style, this quilt incorporates butterflies appliquéed onto the traditional Snowball block. During the 30's in the midst of the Great Depression, the butterfly was frequently included in quilts to symbolize hope. The newborn who received this quilt as a gift is named "Hope", so the explanatory note that HTH Celebration Quilts includes with each finished quilt, included that information along with other interesting details.
This quilt was machine pieced and quilted. The newborn's name and birth date were embroidered by hand (as well as the butterfly antennae) and each butterfly was hand appliquéed with the blanket stitch that was so popular in the 30's era. A flouncy pleated ruffle was added around the outside for that feminine touch.
