My Blue Heart
This quilt top is made entirely from oxford shirts and ties that were worn
by the client's dearly departed husband. Down through the ages, quilters
have achieved differing designs by varying the placement of the classic
log cabin block. This traditional block was manipulated to form a unique
variation, resulting in a heart design made from the soft blue shirts. The
center of each block is made from the silk ties. The lighter logs
surrounding the blue heart seem to highlight it and even make the quilt
shine. An embroidered "Snoopy"on a pocket from one of the shirts is
incorporated into the outside border. On the opposite side border, a cuff
with the husband's monogram is included.
The quilting includes straight lines and stippling that accentuate the
heart design, and around the outside border the quilting incorporates
butterflies, a symbol of hope and eternal life.
This quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted on cotton batting. It
measures 63 X 52 inches.
